maenam
(noun) mâe náam meaning: river; mother water
Water is such an integral part of life and birth…
As a baby, we begin our lives in water (the amniotic sac) and as birthing women we are often drawn to the water for soothing and comfort. During both of my labours, I found immense comfort in the water and have witnessed firsthand how powerful it can be. A river also holds resemblance to the journey of motherhood for me. Always changing, forever shifting.
Sometimes it's calm and we know what to expect, at other times it all feels a bit out of control and chaotic. We adapt to the currents and learn to control what we can and release what we can not. Rivers are strong, wise, and each one is different. Each one creates its own path. And so too is the journey of motherhood, each mother forging her own path being guided by the inherent wisdom that is inside all of us.
